For centuries, money has exerted as much fascination as repulsion on a traditionally Christian people, where getting rich was sometimes frowned upon.

This tour combines the discovery of a district with the use of money over the centuries.

From the origins of taxes and duties, to the Church's trade in indulgences, gambling and its prohibition, the first bankruptcies, the venality of offices and positions, the punishments reserved for crimes involving money, etc.

That's why the tour takes as its backdrop the districts of the right bank where places dedicated to money flourished: Pont aux Changes, rue de la Banque, rue des Orfèvres, Rue des Lombards, Cour des Comptes, Palais Brongniart or Bourse, Banque de France, department stores, auction rooms, etc.
