Take a stroll through another of the capital's murderous districts. A centre of commerce since the 12th century, due to the location of the market that the king wanted, this district was not only the economic lungs of the city.

A number of famous execution sites dating back to the Ancien Régime, such as the pillory and the Châtelet, have now disappeared, while the Place de Grève, just a stone's throw away, is a reminder of the infamy of the law.

Known as the home of the capital's largest market, which Emile Zola called "the belly of Paris", it is also the world of employment and debauchery where banditry and the crime syndicate are organised.

Next to it is the cemetery of the Innocents, an astonishing place of meetings and mysteries which, until 1780, welcomed Parisians to their final resting place.

"Notre Dame des Halles", also known as Saint Eustache, still watches over the secrets of this district, which is full of incidents such as regicide, murder, hold-ups and burglaries...
