Dog sledding in the Queyras!

A simply magical experience worthy of a film! Discover the world of sled dogs, and at the same time discover the end of the world: the Queyras valley, just before Italy.

General presentation

Learn to drive a team of 3 or 4 dogs and set off for a mountain hike on the snow-covered slopes. An unforgettable half-day to discover the pleasures of dog sledding!

It's the ideal way to discover the joys of this activity before embarking on the long treks. The outing begins with an introductory section, with bends, bumps, small climbs and descents, ideal for perfecting your sledge driving skills. Then, depending on the group's progress, you'll gain altitude on a forest track before heading back down to the kennels.

Level required

You need to be in good physical condition to be able to manage your balance and slow down the sled and the dogs. This is a long session, so you'll need to be prepared to stay out in the cold for 3 hours!

Course of a session :

Welcome at the kennels and meeting the musher and the dogs

Learning to drive a sled

Putting the dogs in the harness

Departure for a hike through forests and mountains. The duration and itinerary may vary according to snow conditions and the time spent on the first stages of the session. The ride will take between 1 and 2 hours.

Return to the kennel, removal of the dogs' harnesses and petting with the dogs.

Participants:

Participants must not have any contraindications to the practice of outdoor sports and must be in good physical condition and able to run on a snow-covered track.

a maximum of 3 people per session to ensure quality teaching adapted to the group.

Helmets must be worn (we can lend helmets if required)

For safety reasons, we do not accept pregnant women.

General presentation

Learn about the world of sled dogs and discover the life of a musher for an evening. It's the ideal way to meet the dogs and learn all about this special way of travelling and the dogs themselves. You'll have the chance to interact with the dogs (get to know them, equip them and feed them) and, of course, take a little ride in the sled.

Level required

No experience of sledging is necessary, just a desire to discover this fabulous world and be prepared to brave the cold to quench your thirst for knowledge about Nordic dogs.

Course of a session :

Welcome at the kennel at 5.30pm.

Meet the dogs and the musher, and learn how to equip the dogs that will make up your team.

Once the dogs are ready, all that's left to do is climb into the sled for a 20-30 minute ride, an opportunity to see how the dogs work.

Back at the kennels, you'll help the musher remove the harnesses, water the dogs and give them a pat on the back.

Then it's time to give the dogs a breather to ease their excitement before lunch, where you'll share a hot drink and answer any questions you may have.

Finally, you'll help feed the dogs and return them to their respective pens for a good night's sleep.

Participants

The minimum age for this activity is 5 years (it's cold at the kennels and the session is too long for the little ones)

This is the ideal activity for families, or if you're not physically fit to drive a sled but really want to discover the world of mushing.however, we do not accept pregnant women or people who are injured, as sledging can be a shaky experience, and you don't want to be sitting comfortably in the back of a car.)

The price is for 1 sleigh. Each evening, we can take 1 sleigh on these outings. These are private outings: you book the time slot, and you come with your friends or your children, respecting the following rule: maximum 170kg in the sleigh during the ride.
