HISTORY OF THE PLACE

The origins of Poinçon

Montrouge-Ceinture station, opened in 1867, the year of the Universal Exhibition, was part of the first rail network linking the many districts of the capital. The line was abandoned by Parisians due to increasing competition from metropolitan areas, before being definitively closed to passengers in 1934. Abandoned for almost 74 years, it is now being brought back to life by the Commission du Vieux Paris.

Renaud Barillet, Fabrice Martinez and their Cultplace factory of cultural and social living spaces were entrusted with the development of the former Montrouge-Ceinture station by the municipality of the 14th arrondissement in May 2014. Now refurbished on a 400 m² site with a 250 m² terrace overlooking the Petite Ceinture, the former station has been renamed Poinçon in honour of the tool that was used until the 1960s to validate tickets for travellers in stations. At the crossroads of artistic programming and new cultural and social practices, Poinçon is a place for mixing, meeting and sharing, with a focus on good food, conviviality and celebration.
