Discover Réunion's biggest underground venues
A lava tunnel outing on Reunion Island? Come and explore the Bassin Bleu tunnel, located on the Piton des Neiges massif in Réunion.
It is Réunion's oldest underground network.
To begin, you'll have to climb a short 6-metre wall (accessible to children aged 6 and over) to reach the entrance. In the first part of the tunnel, you can observe a colony of Salangane (pei swallow), endemic to the Mascarene Islands. It is important to follow certain rules so as not to disturb them.
After crawling around on your hands and knees, you'll reach the largest underground chambers on the island. Here you can admire walls covered in snow-white crystals and fluorescent mushrooms.
Once you've reached the bottom of the tunnel, you'll turn around and exit via an introductory abseiling course. This course is open to everyone aged 6 and over.
