What is tap dancing?

Tap dancing is a rhythmic dance in which the dancers produce sounds by hitting the floor with shoes fitted with metal plates.
Tap combines movement and music, using the body as a percussion instrument.

Tap dancing originated in the United States in the XIXᵉ century, when African dances brought by slaves met European dances (Irish and English).
