The Gainsbarre

Inspired by the early years of Serge Gainsbourg's musical career, when he worked as a pianist in the cabarets of the capital, the décor of Le Gainsbarre reproduces the atmosphere created by the artist in his house at 5 bis rue de Verneuil.

A restaurant by day, the lights at Le Gainsbarre dim in the evening to transform it into a cosy cocktail bar with music provided by the Pianocorder or a pianist.

  • Capacity: 70 people standing / 50 people seated.

Immersive tour of the historic house

The emblematic place where Serge Gainsbourg lived from 1969 until his death in 1991, the interior of 5 bis rue de Verneuil has been preserved intact for over 34 years. The tour is set to an original soundtrack created by Soundwalk Collective in collaboration with Charlotte Gainsbourg, echoing memories of her father and her childhood home.

  • 30-minute tour with audio equipment (FR/EN)
  • Confidential and intimate format: 2 people in each room
  • The museum has been awarded the "Heritage of Regional Interest" label by the Île-de-France region and the "Maisons des Illustres" label by the French Ministry of Culture.

Self-guided tour of the museum

Divided into 8 chronological chapters, the museum offers an insight into the life and career of Serge Gainsbourg through 400 original objects and a selection of rare and unpublished television, photographic, film and radio archives.

At the end of the tour, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions highlighting some of the key events in the artist's career.
