"Visit to the educational apiary" - Half-day format

Discover the fabulous world of bees at the "Autour des ruches" educational apiary on Chemin du tour des roches.

The programme includes discovering the social organisation of bees, the different inhabitants of the hive and their roles, the products of the hive (honey, pollen, royal jelly, propolis, wax, venom), highlighting the vital role of pollinators in the life of bees.of pollinators in plant reproduction, what dangers bees face and how to protect them, discover the role of the beekeeper, visit the educational garden and explore its inhabitants and scents...

Our beekeeper will open a hive for you to observe the colony.

Each participant will make a beeswax candle and taste different honeys.

Access to the apiary is forbidden to people allergic to bee venom.

Capacity: 25 people maximum per half-day.

50 people over the day with a group of 25 people in the morning and a group of 25 people in the afternoon.

Detailed programme:

- Theoretical discovery (How to recognise an insect, the social organisation of bees, the different inhabitants of the hive and their roles, the products of the hive...),

- Visit to the educational garden and exploration of its inhabitants and scents (each person has a magnifying glass),

- Opening a beehive (either you are less than 10 people and you will enter the apiary wearing a jacket, or you are more than 10 people and you will observe the apiary from a secure area),

- Making a magic candle that grants a small wish (and it works!),

- Learn about pollination by bees and taste some honey.

OPTIONAL Coco braiding workshop

Learn how to make your own objects from braided coconut and multiplying palm leaves: a fish, an eternal rose and a crown.

Tasting of coconut-based products (depending on the season, coconut water, coconut rock, coconut, etc.)

- The pleasure of creating, each participant leaves with their own creations

- Discover the different products made from coconut

- Discover the know-how and revive the Lontan tradition.

- Promote the use of plant-based materials that are aesthetically pleasing, robust and abundant, as opposed to materials derived from fossil fuels.

- What is a coconut palm? The nut, the water, the milk, the oil, the nectar, the weaving of the leaves..

- Show an example of braiding step by step, taking care to detail each operation. Then go through the braiding process again step by step.

Different possible formats:

- Bee discovery morning for less than 10 people: visitors put on the equipment and come into the apiary with the beekeeper.

- Bee discovery morning for up to 25 people: visitors observe the bees from a secure area.

- Bee discovery day - maximum 25 people per half-day.

- Afternoon Introduction to coconut weaving - Maximum 25 people: Learn how to make a fish, a rose and a wreath.

Who is "L'Ecole de la Nature"?

Since 2017, L'Ecole de la Nature has been offering educational workshops relating to the environment in order to enhance and protect our natural, historical and cultural heritage.

We cater for all types of audience and operate all over the island.
