What is it all about?

Subjecting the body to extreme cold temperatures for a few minutes with the aim of creating a thermal shock that generates vasoconstriction and stimulation of the thermal receptors in the dermis.

The average temperature of the skin is 30°C. During the 3 minutes of the session at -85°C, it decreases rapidly and significantly to 15°C. It is the first organ affected and therefore stimulated by the cold.

In reaction, the metabolism uses various mechanisms (nervous, vascular, endocrine) to keep the internal temperature at 37°C and thus protect the vital organs.

Course of a session:

- The patient enters the -85°C chamber in a swimming costume. He will remain there for 3 to 4 minutes depending on his tolerance threshold.

- His extremities are protected by gloves, ski socks, ear and head protection. The upper airways are protected by a mask.

- The patient is under the continuous visual and auditory surveillance of the operator.

During the session and immediately afterwards, the skin temperature drops rapidly to 15°C (instead of 33°C). This results in a thermal shock which causes superficial vasoconstriction and a slowing down of nerve conduction

The session includes:

- explanations: checking for contraindications, explanation of the session, building confidence...

- preparation: getting equipped and dressed

- 3 to 4 minutes in the cryospace

- in addition, 20 minutes of hypoxia at rest in a comfortable armchair (comics, magazines and books are available)

- and to finish, a hot drink is offered to you!

BONUS: 20 minutes of hypoxia at rest are included and associated with each full body cryotherapy session!
